Four easy day trips from Sedona

Sedona sits in the middle of a lot. Each of these fits comfortably in a day, with the fire table waiting when you get back.

Grand Canyon, South Rim

  • About 2 hours each way
  • Full day
  • Park entry fee

Leave early, drive north through Oak Creek Canyon and Flagstaff, and you can be at the rim by mid-morning. Walk the Rim Trail between viewpoints, have lunch in Grand Canyon Village, and head back in the afternoon.

Good to know: The park charges an entry fee per vehicle, and the America the Beautiful pass covers it. The National Park Service site has current fees and road conditions.

Jerome

  • Under an hour
  • Half day

A copper mining town built on the side of Cleopatra Hill, now full of galleries, tasting rooms and old brick buildings that lean a little. The winding drive up is half the fun. Pair it with Cottonwood on the way back.

Flagstaff

  • Under an hour
  • Half or full day

The drive up State Route 89A through Oak Creek Canyon climbs from red rock to ponderosa pine. Flagstaff sits roughly 2,500 feet higher than Sedona, so it is noticeably cooler in summer and often snowy in winter. Walk the historic downtown, then stop at a canyon overlook on the way home.

Good to know: In winter, check road conditions before taking the canyon road.

Verde Valley wine country

  • 20 to 30 minutes
  • An afternoon

Vineyards and tasting rooms line Page Springs Road along Oak Creek, and Old Town Cottonwood has a walkable main street of tasting rooms and restaurants. Pick a driver or book a tour.

Before you go

  • Drive times are from Sedona in normal traffic. Weekend traffic through town can add to them, so leave early.
  • Fill the tank in Sedona before the Grand Canyon drive.
  • Plan one big day, not four. Most guests pair one long trip with shorter half days, and keep a day free for the trails.

Pick your dates. We'll light the fire table.
